3/30/05 NASCAR and Marching Band by Joe Morrison Ok so everybody knows about the whole new rules for band and this whole new point system. Well after careful comparison it turns out that Mac's point system is kind of based off of NASCAR’s Championship Points System. And here is how the system works. In NASCAR Nextel Cup racing, following the 26th race of the season (out of 36), all drivers in the NASCAR Top 10 and any others within 400 points of the leader will earn a berth in the "Chase for the Championship." Well with that said anybody out side the 400 point cut off will not race for the championship. Instead they will be racing for the first spot out side the 400 point cut off for 1 million dollars. So according to Mac’s point system if a person gets 10 points then they are cut from the program. Much like if a driver doesn’t make the 400 point cut then he doesn’t get a shot at the title. So anyone who doesn’t get 10 points will be in Marching Band till the end of the season. And this isn’t all every time someone does something bad they get a point. Well in NASCAR depends on the penalty if it’s just a minor one they will get fined but if it a bad one like cursing during an interview then they will get lose points for the championship standings. So in conclusion the points system is easy to get around if you play your cards right and if you think this is a bad idea I would have to agree on some things but I think Mac went to far on this one if he would of said like if your ten minutes late you get to run another mile after we do th e warm up mile or something like that. I think he should just break them not force them to quit but to get them close to that point. Well that’s what I have notice on some things. And let the debating begin. Your local Redneck, -Joe-
